Purchase an organic or preservative-free turkey. Massage the turkey with olive oil, rosemary, sage, garlic salt and pepper. Cut up apples and put into the cavity of the turkey. Place the turkey in large oval Dutch oven and sear in a 500-degree oven until it is brown, approximately ½ hour.
(If you have an electric oven, this may not work as well.)
Stuffing: for 10 people
Bake two pans of Cornbread
3 loaves of 100% Whole Wheat Bread
4 Eggs
2 whole Onions, chopped
3 stalks of Celery, chopped
1 to 2 bunches of fresh Parsley
3 cloves Garlic, finely chopped
4 cups Chicken Broth
2 sticks of Salted Butter
Honey to sweeten it up if needed
2 teaspoons Sage
1 teaspoon Thyme
Poultry Seasoning, (a few teaspoons, optional)
In large bowl, crumble bread and corn bread then add all of the ingredients and mix well. Taste the mixture, if it needs more salt or butter, you can add as needed.
After the turkey has been seared, fill every part of it. Bake covered at 500 degrees basting every few hours. You will have to calculate how long it will take to roast your turkey depending on how heavy it is. If you bake it at 500 degrees, it will take less time. This is my favorite stuffing ever! |
